“Art strengthens communities, drives tourism, and fosters an environment of creativity and innovation. Through the West 31st Street Murals, we aim to engage the creative sector to capture the spirit of our city and to further the mission of the Downtown Bryan Association to create, cultivate, and showcase the commerce, culture, and community of our Downtown District by preserving the past and building a vibrant future.” ~Katie Neason, Co-Founder of West 31st St. Murals
The mother-daughter team of Renovation Wranglers, created the idea of gathering artists to enhance the appearance of the side of the Conlee-Garrett Moving and Storage building, located on West 31st Street in Downtown Bryan, through mural art. Artists from all over applied and submitted their ideas that celebrated the city’s past or present showcasing commerce, culture, and community. Five artists were then chosen through a selection committee and painting began June 4, 2017. Artists will paint through the summer months and the grand reveal will take place Friday, September 1, 2017, during First Friday.
